The story

A recently purchased 1920s-era craftsman home in the Central District of Seattle got a full down-to-studs remodel on a secondary bathroom on the main floor.  Our firm was called in to create a bathroom that served as a first floor powder room and guest bathroom and conceptually brought the backyard garden into their home.  A novel waterproof wallpaper system let us create a botanical mural over the back wall of the bathroom, which was also visible from the adjacent sitting area.

We found the quartzite slab to add textural interest and feature strong veining.  The owner’s requirement that the vanity also contain a broom closet offered an opportunity to feature more of the slab by cascading it down from the top of the closet to the vanity countertop.  We laid the green backsplash tile, a mid-tone that was highlighted in the wallpaper mural, in a dynamic herringbone fashion. Rift-cut oak cabinets were chosen along with bronzed ribbed textured hardware.  We incorporated an art deco-influenced pendant in an antique bronze as the accent lighting, to lend an exotic feel to the space.  For grooming and makeup illumination, we used an integrated LED medicine cabinet. A no-threshold shower with grab bars provided guest safety while inviting lovely, luxe showering.  In the shower, a large format tile in a neutral color was chosen to lessen grout lines. To hide unsightly shampoo bottles, we nested two niches out of direct view in the pony wall.
